Specialized Experience in Surveying Services

 

Northwest Datum & Design, Inc. and its professional staff have relevant experience assisting municipalities, governmental agencies, and the private industry with surveying and mapping services.  Our projects range in size from small projects with budgets of a few thousand dollars to larger complex, multidiscipline projects that take several years to complete.  Please find listed below a sample of project experience of our company and staff.

 

Northshore Utility District Sewer and Water System; Northeast Lake Washington, Bothell, Totem Lake, Woodinville, WA – Completed GPS planning, control work, and calculations for the aerial mapping of 9 square miles, the entire Northshore Utility District’s water service area.  This survey required coordinating 4 survey crews to set, monitor, and move 4 GPS survey units over the district for 4 consecutive days and nights to map the area.  Error ellipses for the horizontal and vertical control for the project were less than 0.05 feet.  Mapping was tied to the Washington State Plane Coordinate system and an aerial mapping firm generated photographic topographical mapping of the entire district.

 

Section Street, City of Burlington, Burlington, WA – Surveying completed for this project required collecting all existing utilities, road information, and existing residential fences, driveways and educated landscaping.  Construction staking was completed for the sewer, water, and road systems.  Our firm designed 1/2 mile of Section Street, which included the road, sewer, and storm drainage systems.  Contract bid documents, specifications, contract administration, as well as construction and as-built surveys were completed for the City of Burlington.  Permit processing and application for compliance with FEMA funding for emergency reconstruction of the road and sanitary sewer system was also provided to the City of Burlington.

 

Sewer Wastewater Outfall System, City of Arlington, Arlington, WA – Performed topographical and construction surveying and engineering design of sewer outfall system for the City’s main sewer outfall into the Stillaguamish River.

 

Raspberry Ridge, Housing Authority of Skagit County, Burlington, WA – Performed topographical and monitoring surveys for the construction of a $1.4 million 50-unit Farm Worker project for the Housing Authority of Skagit County.  This project included a ½ mile of existing county roads, Gardner Road and Fairhaven Avenue, Ό mile of private road for Sanchez Lane and the 15 acre parcel of land for site development.  This survey was used for the in-house design of grading, sewer, water and storm drainage for the project. 

 

Warm Beach Christian Camp, Sewer Force Main, Stanwood, WA – Completed topographical survey and base mapping for the design of sewer force main.  This survey required establishing the flood plain, property ownerships, levee locations, and alternate routes for placement of the force main.  This project is ongoing and will require shoreline, critical areas, Department of Ecology, and Dike District permits before the final construction plan receives approval.

 

Warm Beach Christian Camp, Sewer Wetland Water Treatment Ponds, Stanwood, WA – Completed topographical survey and base mapping for the design of a $1.2 million sewer wetland water treatment ponds project.  This survey required locating existing utilities, wetlands, sewer lagoon, and natural features affecting the placement of structures, and inlets and outlets to the treatment system.

 

Starbird Estates, Richard Bertelsen, Mount Vernon, WA - Performed all land and construction surveying for this 270 acre, 54-lot long plat.  This project consisted of 2.5 miles of onsite roads, and 6.5 miles of offsite topographical mapping for the water line extension of an 8” ductile iron water line which totaled 9 miles of water line.  Mapping was completed for two different sites used in the evaluation of a free standing 80 ft tall 100,000 gallon elevated water tank and a 20 ft diameter by 50 ft tall water storage stand pipe.  The project also included the survey to widen Starbird Road for 1 mile from the I-5 Interchange east.  Surveys were completed to redesign and construct road extensions and grade changes for Starbird Road and North Starbird Road to meet traffic safety standards.

 

Pioneer Hills Long Plat, Nord Northwest Inc., Stanwood, WA – Performed all land and construction surveying for this 82-lot long plat.  This included surveying for property boundaries between adjoining property owners, and resolving disparities between offsite property owners boundaries created by inadequate property descriptions and errors in the adjoining plat.  The mapping for the project included surveying 1/3 mile of Pioneer Highway, and a topographical survey of 30 acres of rolling hill, ravine and farm land in the flood plain.  The survey work was used to design 1 ½ mile of site roads, sewer, water and storm drainage facilities for the plat.

 

Park Meadows Subdivision, J & J Properties, Mount Vernon, WA – Completed the property survey, topographical survey, construction and as-built surveying for this 20 acre subdivision.  Information gathered included locating infrastructure offsite to tie sewer, water, storm drainage, and roads. Construction staking required slope staking for detention ponds, roads and stream systems and horizontal and vertical control for roads, sewer, water, storm drainage and property boundaries between adjoining property owners and on-site lots.

 

Park Meadows Stream Relocation, City of Mount Vernon, J & J Properties, Mount Vernon, WA – Completed all land and construction surveying for this ½ mile of stream relocation and salmon habitat enhancement project within the City of Mount Vernon.  Our firm also designed the project and facilitated plan review and approval from the Department of Ecology, Department of Fish & Wildlife, Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Marine Fisheries, and the City of Mount Vernon.  This project was recognized for excellence by Governor Gary Locke, the Soil Conservation District Watershed Masters, and the State Department of Fish & Wildlife.

 

Basin Creek Sedimentation Plan, ASARCO Mining & Smelting, Helena, Montana – Performed collection of all field design data, surveying, and plan preparation and field construction for Basin Creek, Leach Heap Gold Mine Storm Drainage and Sedimentation Plan to comply with state permitting requirements.

 

Pioneer View Condominiums/Planned Unit Development, F1 Enterprises Inc., Bothell, WA - Provided topographic surveying, plans, specifications and as-builts for this 24-unit condominium/planned unit development which included roads, sewer, water, storm drainage, construction staking, and the structural evaluation of 12 two-story condominium buildings.

 

Colony Grove Plat, J & J Properties, Mount Vernon, WA - Designed a 38-lot plat including road, sewer, water, and storm drainage systems.  Property surveys, construction staking, as-built survey, construction inspection, and contract administration were also performed.  A challenging aspect of the project entailed a multi-leveled storm drainage detention system placed in the median of the one-way road system.

 

Main Street, City of Lyman, WA – Topographical mapping for the reconstruction of the 1,320 ft street replacement project.  The survey work was used to design the road and replace the existing water line with a new 10” DI water line.  Construction staking was completed for the utilities, road construction, and water line replacement.

 

36th Street Bridge, City of Tukwila, WA – Performed construction staking for the replacement of the existing bridge. Work included staking the bridge, roads approaching the bridge, and underground utilities.

 

Plat Maps Within the Seattle, Washington Area - Performed all layout and final plats for the following plats; Madrona Estates, Lake Washington Park (all divisions), The Highlands – Division I and II, and Magnolia Hills.
